Privacy Policy

1. Who controls your data

2. The short version

• Your saved projects, carts, favourites, price watches and purchase history stay in your browser. We never see them.
• What you type into the planner is sent to our server to generate your plan, and from there to our AI provider, Anthropic, which is switched on for every plan right now.
• When a search returns a poor or empty result, we log the text you typed so we know what to add to the catalogue. It is not linked to your identity in any way.
• We do not sell your data to anyone, ever.
• We use Plausible, a cookie-free analytics service, to see aggregate traffic patterns — it never sets a cookie and never identifies you individually. There is no account, password, or payment information to collect — purchases happen on the retailer’s own site.

3. What stays on your device

Saved projects, saved carts, favourited products, price-watch lists and purchase history are all stored using your browser’s local storage, under a single BuyGround key. This data is never transmitted to our servers. It persists until you clear your browser’s site data, and it does not follow you to a different device or browser — there is no account to sync it.

4. What reaches our servers

Plan requests. When you describe a project, that text and the category you’re browsing are sent to our server to generate a plan. AI-assisted planning is switched on, so that same text is also sent to Anthropic (the maker of the Claude models) for processing. Anthropic may process this outside the EU/EEA under its own compliance safeguards; we don’t send it anywhere else.

Search-quality logs. When a plan request comes back empty or only weakly matched, we record the text you typed, the category, and a timestamp, so we know where the product catalogue is missing something. This log has no name, email, account ID, or any other identifier attached to it — we cannot connect it back to you.

Standard server logs. Our hosting infrastructure may briefly log technical information common to any web request (such as IP address and browser type) for security and reliability purposes, in line with normal hosting practice.

5. Cookies

BuyGround uses Plausible Analytics to understand traffic at a high level — which pages get visited, roughly how much, and where visitors come from. Plausible is cookie-free: it sets no cookies, collects no personal data, does not track you across other sites, and cannot identify you as an individual. We also record, in aggregate, which outbound retailer links get clicked — this tells us which stores people actually go on to buy from, not who clicked.

Because of that, no cookie consent banner is required under the GDPR or the ePrivacy Directive. Plausible is an Estonian company and processes data entirely on EU-based infrastructure — nothing about your visit leaves the EU.

If we ever move to an analytics approach that does use cookies or personal data, this page will be updated first, and we will ask for consent where the law requires it.

6. Retention

Data stored in your browser stays there until you clear it — we have no way to delete it remotely, because we never receive it. Search-quality logs are kept for a limited period for catalogue improvement and then removed.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or export data we hold about you, and to object to how it’s processed. In practice, since almost everything BuyGround stores lives in your own browser, you can already exercise most of these rights yourself by clearing your browser’s site data. For anything else — including the search-quality log — contact us at the address above. You can also lodge a complaint with the Estonian Data Protection Inspectorate (Andmekaitse Inspektsioon).

8. Children

BuyGround is not directed at children under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect data from them.

9. Changes to this policy

As BuyGround adds features — accounts, email notifications, analytics — this page will be updated to reflect exactly what changed, before it changes.
